Intended learning outcomes

a. Knowledge and understanding:

  1. Known the principles of infection control
  2. Learn Healthcare Associated infection (HAI)
  3. Identify the elements of Standard precautions
  4. Learn the different methods of decontamination
  5. Identify the links in the chain of infection

b. Mental skills:

  1. Discuss the Infection transmission process & its prevention
  2. Discuss the aspect related to standard norms, principles, classification, sources & hazards associated with biomedical waste management.
  3. Understand the role of hand hygiene in control of hospital-acquired and the role of different types of (PPE) Personal protective equipment helps in the prevention of transmission of infection.
  4. Recognise different source of infection including water source, food, and hospital areas.
  5. Discuss the different methods of decontamination and its role for controlling the infection

c. Scientific and professional skills:

  1. Learn the proper handwashing technique
  2. Learn proper donning and doffing of PPE’ s ( proper person protecting equipment)
  3. Describe about the physical and chemical methods of sterilization and disinfection
  4. Describe about the various methods used in cleaning & disinfection of medical equipment.
  5. Understand the treatment and disposal techniques of biomedical waste management.

d. General skills:

  1. Apply the knowledge and skills necessary for improving protection from communicable diseases.
  2. Apply different strategies to keep environment safe of infection

Teaching and learning methods

  1. The subject is taught in classrooms and all laboratory activities take place in the laboratory
  2. The student is required to write scientific topics related to the use of research on the Internet
  3. The student brings field or home samples for laboratory testing
